Earlier Sunday, police stopped Antoine Watkins, 27, of Valley Village, Calif., for speeding in the 3000 block of Harrison Street.

Police found four small bags of marijuana in his pocket.
“Oh, I forgot I had the weed,” Watkins said.

Merrillville men found in stolen car

Lake County police arrested three Merrillville men in a stolen car Sunday night.

The police department K-9 units arrested the driver of a white cargo van stopped for traffic violations after they found a large amount of marijuana.

Omar Salvador Gonalez-Gomez, 37, faces felony charges of possession of marijuana.

Patrolman Andrew Cuevas stopped the van Friday night on Cline Avenue when the driver failed to signal and appeared to be driving erratically.

Cuevas and Cpl. John Artibey smelled marijuana coming from the van and obtained permission to search it.

With help from Artibey’s K-9 partner Loki, police located and seized 50 large bundles.

Man cut in face with box cutters
