KOKOMO (AP) — The mother of a slain woman says she’s “outraged” over a plea agreement that could give custody of her grandson to the family of the man charged with killing the boy’s mother.
Travis Funke of Kokomo would serve 35 years in prison and 15 years on supervised probation if a Howard County judge approves the deal in the death of girlfriend Kelly Armstrong.
Armstrong’s mother, Teresa Edwards, tells the Logansport Pharos-Tribune the deal includes a recommendation that the couple’s 2-year-old son be placed with Funke’s relatives instead of foster care.
Edwards wants the deal scrapped.
Funke has told police he killed Armstrong in July 2011 after they argued over drugs. Her body has never been found. Funke is charged with voluntary manslaughter and is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 7.
