Man exposes self to 10-year-old

A Highland man has been charged in Lake Superior Court with child solicitation after a 10-year-old girl told police he exposed himself to her as a prank on other children with whom she had been playing.

John Christopher Dildine, 37, of the 3200 block of Eder Street, took the girl to the basement while two other children were playing outside.

The girl refused to do what the man asked, the probable cause affidavit states. Shortly thereafter, Dildine’s wife came home from work early. Dildine told the girl to lie on the couch while he went to a different area of the basement.

The charge is punishable by a sentence of six months to three years.

Burglar had short time to get inside

A burglar apparently seized a 15-minute window of opportunity to steal a laptop computer from a home in the 300 block of North Indiana Street.

The owner told police she left the house locked at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to go to the store and returned home 15 minutes later to discover her laptop missing from the living room.

The woman told police she initially thought her children may have moved it and checked a bedroom, where she found the screen ripped and pushed up. The window had been left open and unlocked.
