LAFAYETTE — The U.S. military on Saturday said an Indiana soldier died in Afghanistan from wounds he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit.
The Department of Defense said 26-year-old Sgt. Kyle B. Osborn of Lafayette died Thursday in Muqer, Afghanistan, after his unit came under attack from small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment at Camp Ederle in Vicenza, Italy.
Osborn was a 2005 graduate of McCutcheon High School. Physics teacher Cheryl McLean said Osborn passed over a college wrestling career to join the U.S. Army and called his death “just a tragic loss.”
She says Osborn was greatly loved at the Lafayette high school and was very close to his parents.
