INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s secretary of state is advising local officials to be ready for possible emergencies in Election Day.
Secretary Connie Lawson said Monday that an Election and Polling Place Emergency Preparedness Guide has been distributed to county clerks, county election boards and election security officials. The guide provides information to prepare and respond in the event of emergency situations.
Lawson says her office, the Indiana Election Division and county election officials have established emergency response plans for urgent situations that can be anticipated. For example, in the event of an issue with a voting machine, back up machines are available and technicians are prepared to respond. Alternative polling locations have been established in case of a fire or flood, and extra ballots will be printed for each precinct.
