GARY — A wild shootout on an Aetna street early Sunday left one man dead, two wounded and investigators trying to determine what sparked the dispute.
Marshall Brown Jr., 22, of 5801 E. 13th Place, died at The Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus emergency room at 1:45 a.m., about an hour after he and his father exchanged gunfire outside the home of Andre Woods.
Woods, of the 4100 block of East 11th Place, told police he was walking to the front door of his residence at 12:49 a.m. when a car passed and someone inside fired at him. Woods suffered a gunshot wound that entered the top of his foot and exited through the bottom.
Investigators said Woods appeared to have fired shots at the scene. Police recovered shell casings from several types of weapons.
At the same time, Brown, and his father, Marshall Brown Sr., 42, were in a car and were shot and also shot out of the car. The senior Brown was shot several times in the face and arm. He drove to the hospital for treatment and was admitted.
Investigators say others were at the scene, in cars, standing outside or both when gunfire erupted.
Brown is the 35th homicide of the year in Gary.
Detective Lorenzo Davis is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call him at 881-4738.
