INDIANAPOLIS — Police say a speeding car plunged from an Interstate 70 bridge to a street below on the east side of Indianapolis, killing the driver and shutting down all lanes of the highway during the morning commuter rush.
State police say the car went over the bridge’s concrete wall, struck a utility pole and landed on its roof about 20 feet below the highway about 6:15 a.m. Thursday.
The crash left live power lines down on I-70, its ramps with I-465 and Shadeland Avenue, which runs beneath those roadways. The highway was shut down for a couple hours, causing long traffic backups.
The name of the driver who died wasn’t immediately released.
