MONTICELLO (AP) — A man charged in the fatal stabbings of his mother and half-sister is seeking a psychiatric examination to determine if he’s competent to stand trial.

A White Superior Court judge did not immediately rule Wednesday after hearing 20-year-old David Rodenbarger’s request for the exam.

Rodenbarger was charged Monday with two counts of murder for the deaths of Michelle J. “Shelly” Haskins, 41, and Jillian E. “Jilly” Haskins, 6.

Rodenbarger is accused of fatally stabbing his mother and half-sister last week using a two-pronged meat fork and knife at the family’s home near Lake Freeman.

He’s being held without bond in the White County Jail.
