Restaurant night fundraiser: Johnel’s Restaurant, 4141 Calumet Ave., will donate 15 percent of profits from dine-in and carry-out customers from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, to the Hammond Education Foundation’s Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools. Proceeds from the fundraiser support teacher, classroom and school grants. Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools is an arm of the nonprofit Hammond Education Foundation. Regular meetings are held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. p.m. the second Wednesday monthly at Purdue University Calumet, Lawshe Hall, room 305. Suite victory: The Gary South Shore RailCats held a Valentine’s Day-themed contest on their official Facebook page during which the team gave away a candy basket from Albanese and flowers from Bryan’s Florist to a female winner, and a gift certificate for a beer growler from Crown Brewing for the 10 days leading up to Valentine’s Day.
