FORT WAYNE (AP) — A Grabill couple and their two children are celebrating the return of the family’s dog nearly six months after the canine went missing.
WANE-TV reports someone anonymously dropped off a German shepherd last week at Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. The shelter’s staff found the dog had a microchip identifying him as Charlie, the Thompson family’s missing dog.
Heidi Thompson picked up Charlie last Friday from the shelter with her 2-year-old daughter, who had been deeply upset when Charlie vanished from the yard of the family’s Grabill home on Aug. 31. Thompson says her daughter now “won’t go to bed unless Charlie’s in her room.”
The Thompson family had moved and got another dog after Charlie vanished, but they continued to search for the wayward pooch.
