INDIANAPOLIS — A winter storm that swept across Indiana overnight has left behind ice-covered roads and sidewalks, prompting school closures or delays around the state.
The storm’s freezing rain and sleet coated the Indianapolis area with about two-tenths of an inch of ice, while snow fell in northern Indiana.
WTHR-TV reports that all of Marion County’s metropolitan township schools were closed Friday, while Indianapolis Public Schools had a 2-hour delay.
State troopers reported that the Pendleton Post had a busy night dealing with crashes and slide-offs on icy roads.
The storm’s freezing rain and snow had exited all but far northeastern Indiana by Friday morning and temperatures were hovering around freezing.
The National Weather Service reports the storm dropped four inches of snow on Portage in northwestern Indiana’s Porter County.
