A 19-year-old East Chicago woman said she was robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning while visiting at 501 Madison St.
The victim told Patrolman Jamal Milton when she came out of the bathroom at her friend’s apartment, a man and woman were pointing weapons at her and demanding her wallet.
They left with cash, a check and identification. Later, she received threats from the robbery suspects who said they were being evicted because she made a report about the crime.
Detective James Bond is investigating the robbery. Anyone with information about the crime can call him at 881-4750.
West side man
robbed at gunpoint
A 19-year-old west side man told police he was robbed at gunpoint near the corner of 5th Avenue and Jefferson Street about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
The victim said he was approached by a man with a silver semiautomatic pistol who ordered him to empty his pockets.
Detective Cpl. Michael Barnes is investigating the robbery. Anyone with information can call him at 881-7434.
Police arrested a 23-year-old resident of Miller Beach Terrace Residential Facility shortly after a security guard at Fagen Pharmacy said she attacked him with a can opener.
Crystal Jones, charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon and theft, was seen placing a bottle of vodka in the sleeve of her coat at the drug store, located at 5001 E. U.S. 12 on Thursday morning.
The security guard told Sgt. Dan Callahan that he stopped her and escorted her to the office when she hit him in the eye “with a pointy object,” the probable cause affidavit states. The guard suffered a cut under his eye.
Jones is being held on $40,000 bail.
Gary man gets
2 years in robbery
Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez sentenced a Gary man to two years in Lake County Community Corrections for robbery.
Tolin Louis Brown, 46, admitted he threatened the use of force on a Salvation Army bellringer and stole a collection bucket on Dec. 6 outside the Walgreens on 5th Avenue in Gary.
Brown had faced two to eight years on the charge.
in July break-in
An arrest warrant was issued this week for a Gary man charged with a July burglary in Miller.
The victim told Sgt. Brian Farrow that someone broke in the back door of his home and stole three guitars.
Farrow located one of the guitars at Pawn King on Willowcreek Road in Portage and learned Darion L. Oren, 20, had sold it.
Police arrested Oren in November, but released after speaking to him.
