LAPORTE (AP) — The state Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be on the lookout for high water and debris on roads after three days of storms.
The agency says crews are closing roads as needed and posting high water signs. They also are clearing debris on roads. INDOT officials are warning drivers not to try to drive through flooded roadways.
The National Weather Service is reporting that LaPorte has received 6 inches of rain from storms Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Flash flood warnings are in effect for many areas of northern Indiana. The weather service says heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams as well as highways and underpasses.
Storms that hit northern Indiana on Monday also caused widespread power outages.
