MUNSTER -- A Munster bank near the Frank Borman Expressway was robbed late Thursday morning and police believe it was the work of the same man who robbed a Lansing, Ill., bank on Monday.
According to a press release from the Munster police, a lone black male entered the Fifth/Third Bank, 8007 Calumet Ave., at approximately 11:10 a.m. and approached a teller.
The man, who police said was approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds and in his mid to late 40s, implied that he had a weapon by pointing to a bulge in his jacket. No weapon was displayed, the release said. The teller complied with the robber’s demand for cash. He then fled in a white sports car, possibly a Ford Mustang or a Dodge Charger, police said.
The amount of money taken is not known at this time.
Upon receiving money from the teller, the subject ordered the teller to the floor and pressed his shirt against his right hip revealing the bulge of a handgun, a press release said.
The robber was wearing a blue or black stocking cap and a blue windbreaker style jacket and aviator style sunglasses.
On Monday, a man with a similar description robbed the US Bank branch, 17150 S. Torrence Ave., Lansing, Ill., according to the FBI’s BanditTracker Chicago website.
That robber also implied that he had a weapon, but never showed it, the FBI said.
Anyone with information on the Lansing robbery should call the FBI’s Chicago office at (312) 421-6700.
Fifth/Third in Munster and US Bank in Lansing are less than four miles apart and no more than a few blocks north and south, respectively, of Interstate 80/94 exits.
