Judge rules South Bend grandmother should stand trial on neglect charges

Updated: January 12, 2012 10:56PM

SOUTH BEND (AP) — A judge has again ruled a South Bend grandmother should stand trial on three counts of felony child neglect.

Prosecutors allege 53-year-old Dellia Castile failed to report abuse committed by her adult son on his children. Terry Sturgis is charged with murdering his 10-year-old son, Tramelle, on Nov. 4, and also faces eight felony counts of battery.

St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller on Thursday ruled that defense attorney Anthony Luber could not appeal her earlier ruling rejecting his motion that the state hadn’t established sufficient probable cause for the charges.

Deputy Prosecutor Joel Gabrielse says Sturgis and his children had lived with Castile since August 2008.
