INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana University School of Medicine is joining a program sponsored by first lady Michelle Obama to better train doctors to treat veterans’ health concerns.
IU’s medical school, the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine will all work together on the project. IU will conduct research and clinical trials to learn more about health concerns specific to veterans like brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. They’ll share their methods and results in an online database, which will be accessible to medical schools across the country.
Obama’s program is called Joining Forces, and its goal is to find ways for Americans of all kinds to support veterans and military families. She praised IU’s partnership for helping to bring veterans first-rate medical care.
