Couple charged in Fargo arrested in Merrillville

FARGO, N.D. — Police in Fargo say a man and woman who went on the run after the man was accused of sexually assaulting the woman’s daughter were arrested Tuesday in Merrillville.

A warrant for 37-year-old Anthony Sells was issued in Cass County, N.D., last week on a charge of gross sexual imposition of a victim less than 15 years old.

His girlfriend, the alleged victim’s 34-year-old mother, was charged with hindering law enforcement. Court documents say that she told police the girl was recanting her story.

According to court documents, the woman left a note for her employer asking that her last paycheck be forwarded to an address in Gary.

Deputy U.S. marshals and officers with the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the couple about 8 a.m. Tuesday at an unnamed hotel in Merrillville where they were staying.

Sells and the woman were taken into custody without incident and were being held in Lake County Jail in Crown Point until extradition proceedings can begin, a news release from the U.S. Marshal’s Service stated.
