SOUTH HAVEN — Two people were shot in a drunken disturbance early Friday outside the Sportsmans Lounge, at 381 W. U.S. 6.

According to a preliminary police report, Jeannette L. Gibbs, 46, of Davenport, Iowa, allegedly pulled a gun and shot Phillip Crowder, 37, of South Haven, in the leg after he walked her to a vehicle at about 2:13 a.m. A witness to the shooting in the parking lot said she overheard the woman screaming at Crowder for “being friendly” with other women.

Four or five shots were heard. The first went through Crowder’s right calf from about 8 feet away, a witness told police. Crowder then ran at Gibbs, and she was shot in the shoulder during their struggle, which ended when they both fell to the ground, according to police. Gibbs injured her head in the fall and lay on the ground while Crowder ran back into the bar. Patrons rushed him to take the .25-caliber, stainless steel semi-automatic pistol he reportedly took from the woman.

Bar patrons inside said Crowder had danced with and kissed more than one woman before leaving the bar withGibbs. A bartender told police Crowder had approximately five beers and at least two shots of liquor before the incident. The bartender said Gibbs had been drinking before entering the bar.

Crowder was treated at released at Porter Regional Hospital. Gibbs was admitted to Porter Regional for an evaluation of the head injury she suffered in the fall. As for Gibbs’ gunshot wound, the bullet entered her left shoulder and exited the back of her arm, about midway between the shoulder and elbow, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate.
