Burglar sentenced to prison, addiction program
A series of three burglaries to the same home for money for heroin garnered a Chesterton man a six-year prison term.
Joseph Robert Grundell, 27, may not have to serve all that time before he gets out to serve four years of probation, though.
Porter County Superior Court Judge William Alexa ordered Grundell’s placement in the Westville Therapeutic Community program. If Grundell passes the program, he can petition the court for a sentence modification.
Grundell will also have to pay $7,000 restitution for the burglaries that happened from Jan. 10-April 12, while the owners were on vacation.
He used his grandparents’ key for the neighbors’ home and stole a television he pawned for $150, jewelry, a coin jar and blank checks.
