On work release, another burglary
Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez sentenced a Gary man to 12 years in prison for two burglaries.
Edorney Coffey, 37, admitted he burglarized Luke Oil in August 2012, damaging doors and a cash register and stealing cigarettes.
Coffey, who has five prior felony convictions, had been sentenced in 2011 for a prior burglary case and had spent about three weeks in the Lake County Community Corrections Kimbrough Work Program when he committed the burglaries while on a pass for work.
Deputy prosecutor Jose Vega argued for six year terms for each burglary, while defense attorney John Maksimovich said his client has a drug problem and needs treatment while he’s in prison.
Vasquez imposed two six-year terms, which will be served consecutively.
