Police are searching for a person of interest in connection with the death of a Highland woman, who was found shot to death in her home early Monday.

Jacqueline Williams, 28, of the 2600 block of 40th Place, was pronounced dead 1:31 a.m., according to a release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Highland Police Department Cmdr. George Georgeff said that police are attempting to locate a man for questioning on the case.

Williams worked as an X-ray technician at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago. Georgeff said police were called to Williams’ residence shortly after midnight when co-workers reported that Williams failed to show up for her shift, which started at 10:30 p.m. Georgeff said that Williams was found dead upon arrival.

A call to the coroner’s office went out at 12:03 a.m. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is helping to investigate the case.

NICTD Police Chief Robert Byrd, spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, said police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no need for the community to be alarmed.

Byrd said any tips should be directed to the Highland Police Department at 838-3184, and callers can remain anonymous.

Ron Mysliwy, who is the landlord for Williams’ duplex, described her as “one of sweetest people I’ve ever met.” He said she had lived in the duplex for about a year with her boyfriend and a black pit bull named Waldo.

Mysliwy said that Williams worked a night shift, so she wasn’t really well-known to neighbors.

Mysliwy said he spoke to several neighbors, but none of them heard or noticed anything out of the ordinary over the weekend.

“This is just really sad,” Mysliwy said.
