GRIFFITH

TVs taken from apartment

Police are investigating an apartment burglary between 8 and 11 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of North Indiana Street where someone broke a window to gain access and hauled out a 60-inch flat-screen TV and 42-inch and 32-inch TVs.

Mother, daughter arrested

A 31-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter were arrested after an altercation at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of North Arbogast Street.

Monique Renata Cole, 31, told police her daughter attacked her in the apartment, where police earlier had responded to a loud music complaint.

The girl said her mother continued to hit her after she was being held back by her mother’s 18-year-old boyfriend. The girl told police her mother had furnished alcohol to party attendees.

Cole faces misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, battery and furnishing alcohol, and the girl faces misdemeanor battery.

Woman, teen face charges

A traffic stop at 2:15 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of North Elmer Street resulted in an arrest for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

Cortney Jane Meier, 21, of Hammond, was arrested, as was a 16-year-old girl for minor possession of alcohol.

HOBART

Police seek applicants

The Hobart Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of police officer.

Eligible candidates must be in good physical condition and between ages 21-35.

Applications may be picked up 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 17 and Jan. 20 or 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the police station, 705 E. 4th St.

CHESTERTON

Battery victim escapes

A 23-year-old Lake Station woman suffered head and facial injuries after fleeing from a vehicle to escape a 44-year-old Chesterton man who allegedly was punching her as he drove her home.

As she was treated at about 6:50 p.m. Saturday at the Porter hospital emergency station at Porter Avenue and Indiana 49, the woman told police she got away when the suspect let her open the vehicle door to vomit.

Police could not immediately locate the suspect, so prosecutors will determine whether to file charges.

VALPARAISO

Two women join PD

Two new police officers were sworn in Monday morning at City Hall; both begin their new duties immediately.

Cassidy Reeder, 29, graduated from Homestead High School in northeastern Indiana and earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. She is working toward a master’s degree in criminal behavior.

Casey Pedersen, 22, is originally from Northview, Mich. She graduated from Valparaiso University and completed two internships at the Valparaiso Police Department.
