Four years for breaking man’s nose

Updated: January 19, 2012 10:27PM

Lake Superior Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr., sentenced a Hobart man to four years for battery that left the victim with a broken nose and other injuries and medical bills.

Austin Olivarri will serve two years in Lake County Community Corrections, followed by two years on probation, and was ordered to pay $7,750 in restitution to the victim, who said he wanted his two attackers to be able to work to cover his medical expenses.

Olivarri, 23, admitted he and co-defendant Charles C. Long, 22, pushed the victim, William Nedberg, to the ground on May 14 in the 200 block of Henry Street and kicked him around the head and body. The man had a broken nose and bruises to his face, scalp and neck.

Long received the same sentence on Nov. 10, and by Dec. 14 Community Corrections officials had filed document to expel Long, who remains at large.

Both men had faced from 20 to 50 years on the original charges.
