4-year sentence for robbery, auto theft

An East Chicago man was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by two years on probation, for robbery and auto theft.

Alex Dominique Lenore, 20, admitted he pointed a gun at a store clerk at Mr. Foots on Indianapolis Boulevard in East Chicago and demanded money on Nov. 9, 2010. The store owner, who was nearby when Lenore pulled out the gun, went to open the cash register. Lenore then pointed the gun toward him before he took money and ran.

On Feb. 24, 2010, police tried to stop Lenore, who was driving a stolen car near 145th Street and Indianapolis Boulevard in East Chicago, but he drove away. Police stopped him a short distance away.

As part of Lenore’s plea agreement, he must pay $836 in restitution to the owner of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu.

Lenore had faced a maximum 20-year sentence on the original robbery charge, which was dismissed along with a charge of pointing a firearm.

2 years’ probation
in inmate attack

An East Chicago man was placed on probation for two years for assisting a criminal in an attack on an inmate in the sheriff’s work release center.

Jaquan Romere Richards, 29, told Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell he would rather spend two years on probation than the one-year sentence she initially outlined for him, which she had said would run concurrently with the sentence he is serving in an earlier drug case.

Deputy prosecutor Michael Woods read a section of Indiana code that requires Richards to be sentenced consecutively.

Richards told the judge he is trying to get his education and plans to continue working to provide for his five children.

Charges of attempted aggravated battery and three counts of battery were dismissed under terms of a plea agreement. Richards’ other sentence will end on Feb. 28.
