K-9 sniffs out man in crawl space

A Glen Park man wanted on warrants for multiple charges was found hiding in a crawl space where police had gone to assist the Department of Children and Family Services Wednesday afternoon.

Feliz Yzaguirre, 25, of 3609 Mississippi St., was being held on warrants for failing to appear in court on charges including receiving stolen property and criminal recklessness.

Cpl. Primo Rodriguez went to a house in the 3800 block of Louisiana Street to help a case manager retrieve children and to locate Yzaguirre.

Rodriguez knew the suspect was in the house, but couldn’t find him. Patrolman Andrew Cuevas and his K-9 partner, Dutch, searched the house and found Yzaguirre hiding in a crawl space in the basement.

Police said they heard a noise downstairs and Dutch alerted to an area, but officers didn’t see anyone there at first. After looking again, Cuevas saw some fingertips holding a board, then found Yzaguirre behind it.

Pair take woman’s car at gunpoint

A 53-year-old woman was carjacked at gunpoint as she drove near her downtown home Wednesday morning, police said.

The victim told Patrolman Jamal Milton a woman walked up to her car on 6th Avenue east of Broadway and asked where she could catch the bus. A man appeared on the driver’s side, pointed a gun and demanded her money.

The pair climbed into the car and ordered the woman to drive west to Washington Street, then forced her out of her car.

Police are looking for a black 1999 Buick Regal. The victim was not injured, police said.
