Andrean High School announced the new principal who will succeed the Rev. Paul Quanz this fall.
Paul Sullivan will start his term on July 1 as the first layperson to serve as principal. Last fall, Quanz announced plans to resign the position effective June 30 to become a priest with the Diocese of Gary.
Quanz has served as a teacher, school treasurer, and principal in his 30 years at Andrean. He is the last of the Congregation of St. Basil ministers at the school.
Sullivan has been an educator for more than 30 years in both public and Catholic schools. Currently, he is principal of the Universal American School in Kuwait, a private, college-prepartory school with a multinational student body, according to a release sent out by the Diocese of Gary.
Sullivan has been an administrator at Catholic schools in Las Vegas, Atlanta, San Antonio and Billings, Mont.
Sullivan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Notre Dame in 1973. He also holds a master’s degree from the University of Northern Arizona and a doctorate from the University of Georgia. Sullivan started out his education career as a math teacher, and he’s also coached high school football.
Sullivan said he looks forward to working with the Andrean community and will do so with a great deal of teamwork, enthusiasm, energy, vigor, humor and drive, in an email sent by the school on Friday.
