CALUMET TWP. — Calumet High School Principal Tim Pivarnik will be back next year.

In an unusual move Monday, the Lake Ridge School Board agreed to renew his contract, a month after telling him it wouldn’t be renewed.

“Tim has done some wonderful things here as far as moving our school forward” Superintendent Sharon Johnson-Shirley said. “I’m glad it’s settled so we can move back to the pursuit of high academic achievement.”

On Dec. 22, when the board voted against renewing Pivarnik’s contract, Johnson-Shirley said the board decided it was time to move in a different direction.

Pivarnik, whose contract was extended to June 30, 2013, led Calumet out of a state-imposed probation. The school improved its test scores after adopting a “new tech” hands-on curriculum.
