GARY — A young man shot in the face Friday afternoon was flown to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., with critical injuries.

Walter Adams, 18, ran north from 49th Place after someone shot him about 3:40 p.m.

Police found the victim collapsed outside his home in the 1400 block of East 49th Avenue, about one block north of the scene.

A suspect, described as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and brown skull cap, ran south after firing at the victim.

The department’s two K-9 officers searched a three-block area south of 49th and east to Indiana Street attempting to locate the shooter. No one was in custody by Friday evening.

Detectives Cpl. Edward Gonzalez and Cpl. James Nielsen are investigating. Anyone with information can call Gonzalez at 881-4750 or Nielsen at 881-4754.
