A Lake Superior Court jury deliberated less than two hours before convicting a Chicago man of a murder in Griffith in front of the victim’s two children.
Robert E. Davis, 45, was convicted in the death of Parrish Myles outside an apartment in the 1800 block of Mansard Boulevard on July 22. Myles sustained wounds to the abdomen and leg and died at Community Hospital in Munster. His children were in the SUV when gunshots rang out, followed by a high-speed chase and the eventual capture of Davis and his nephew.
Myles, who was active in the narcotics trade with a man who had been killed the week before in Maywood, Ill., had been a target of an apparent murder-for-hire scheme by another individual over $40,000 in cash and drugs missing from an apartment of the Maywood victim, authorities allege.
Davis faces a sentence of 45 to 65 years in prison at his Feb. 28 sentencing hearing before Judge Clarence Murray. Deputy prosecutors Angela Mattozzi and Evelyn Scott presented evidence.
Davis’ nephew, co-defendant Lyndon C. Davis, 30, has pleaded not guilty to murder and murder in perpetration of a robbery. His case is set for trial starting April 30.
