Chicago man admits kidnapping East Chicagoan

A Chicago man will plead guilty to kidnapping an East Chicago man for ransom a year ago, according to a plea agreement filed Friday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.

Jesus Ramirez, 42, and Jose Montoya, 39, of Summit, Ill., were accused of going to the victim’s house in East Chicago on Jan. 14, 2011, and beating the victim, identified as A.H. They told the victim they would kidnap the victim’s family members, too, if A.H. didn’t come along.

The defendants then called the victim’s relatives during the next four days to demand a ransom. The $75,000 ransom was paid by relatives and A.H. was found at a North Riverside, Ill., restaurant.

According to Ramirez’s plea agreement, he faces up to life in prison on the charge,
