WINFIELD — The Town Council wants to become good neighbors with Lakes of Four Seasons and other areas of Winfield Township, sharing equipment, coordinating community events and buying needed materials in bulk.
“We all have to work together. In the past, the mentality has been we’re Winfield and they’re Lakes of Four Seasons. We want to get past that,” councilman Dave Anderson told members of the Winfield/LOFS Chamber of Commerce at their monthly meeting at Christ Presbyterian Church Tuesday afternoon.
Council President Paulette Skinner said both governing groups need the same products, such as salt, and could probably get a better deal if they did bulk purchasing together.
“Four thousand people becomes 20,000 people,” she said if all three groups work together.
Winfield has 4,000 residents and LOFS about 8,000 residents. Others live in the township.
Skinner said she’d also like to coordinate community-wide garage sales and other events with the private community to the east.
“It’s being good neighbors and good business,” she said.
LOFS Community Manager Rick Cleveland said he is supposed to be meeting with Skinner, but nothing has been discussed as yet.
“It’s a possibility,” he said.
Skinner and Anderson said another goal of the council is to create a central park for the entire community.
“We have all these people and no parks. We need to create a central place where we can all gather instead of in a parking lot,” Anderson said.
Community events have been held in the parking lots of the shopping plaza at 109th and Randolph and at the Town Hall parking lot.
Skinner said the town is looking at a 15-acre parcel by the Stonegate subdivision south of 109th. She said much can be done with that size park, with the proper plan.
Anderson said it is a matter of securing the property at this point. He said they are working with the Stonegate developer, Providence Real Estate Corp.
