Allen James Vitoux, 37, of Cedar Lake, was charged in Lake Superior Court with burglary, two counts of forgery, two counts of fraud on a financial institution, residential entry and theft after his grandmother called police after discovering a check missing and money withdrawn from her accounts. The woman told police Vitoux had visited her Merrillville home with a female companion who engaged the grandmother in conversation while Vitoux roamed the house. The woman suspected a check was taken from her Chase Bank account during Vitoux’ visit, which was the first in several months. Provided Photo~Sun-Times Media

A child molesting charge has been filed in Lake Superior Court against a Cedar Lake man already in custody on a Merrillville burglary case.
Allen James Vitoux, 38, of the 13000 block of Edison Street, is charged with molesting a boy between mid-May 2002 to mid-May 2005 in Crown Point. The boy, now a teen, told police he was 5 when Vitoux molested him, the probable cause affidavit states. Court records indicate the boy told a family member last fall about the allegations.
Vitoux remains in custody on burglary and other charges. That case is set for trial May 14 before Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Vitoux was acquitted during a jury trial of murder in the 2005 strangulation death of his mother, Abbie Vitoux, 52.
