CROWN POINT — Many people may not know Bill Moit the accountant, but they do know “The accountant guy with all the trains,” which suits him just fine.

Moit, of Rensselaer and a member of the Lionel Modulator Train Club Inc., has all his trains and setups at his accounting office, and they’re always a huge hit with his clients. For him, there’s nothing better than sitting at a desk and playing with them.

Equally fun is bringing big sections of his hobby to allow little and big kids alike to enjoy. Saturday morning was more crowded at their annual “Trains in the City” exhibit at the Civic Center, but there were still people of all ages gazing at the electric wonders.

Moit was especially happy to debut his Lionel diesel engine that spit smoke as it rolled counter-clockwise on the track.

“I’ve been on both sides (of being able to afford trains and train accessories), and now, I like to look for stuff that’s different,” he said. “This one fires off a lot of smoke for being a Lionel.”

First-year members of the club Moit describes as “a club of just guys and trains” are required to build two 30-inch wide and 45-inch long, straight modules. Because scenery tastes are so divergent, the material never matches, but because of the standards, the pieces always fit perfectly, he said.
