GARY — Four people were shot and a fifth killed in a 12-hour period Friday night.
Brelen McGee, 19, was found shot to death in the back seat of a car parked outside his house shortly after 11 p.m., police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
McGee’s mother told police she spoke to her son just minutes before neighbors in the 100 block of West 49th Avenue heard several gunshots. A neighbor saw a parked white car that had bullet holes in it and discovered McGee in the back seat.
Investigators say they have no evidence that McGee’s homicide is related to another Glen Park shooting three hours earlier that occurred just two blocks away.
Tyran Roddy, 22, who also lives in Glen Park, had just stopped his car outside a relative’s house in the 5100 block of Adams Street about 8:15 p.m. and was talking on his cell phone when he noticed a dark four-door car pull alongside him. A passenger in the car shot at Roddy, who was wounded in the upper shoulder. The suspect drove south on Adams, then east on 52nd Avenue after the shooting.
About 6 p.m., 18-year-old Jesse King was shot in the thigh as he carried out his garbage in the 2200 block of Delaware Street, police said. The victim said he saw a black two-door car on the street. A passenger in the car fired a shot that struck King, who was waiting on his front steps when medics and police arrived.
Detectives Cpl. James Nielsen and James Bond are investigating all three Friday night shootings. Anyone with information can call Nielsen at 881-4754 or Bond at 881-4751.
Early Saturday, a Tarrytown couple were both shot as they slept in their bed, King said. Letha Snyder, 47, and her husband, John, 72, heard shots from outside the house about 4:50 a.m. He was shot in the thigh and she was wounded in the knee. Detective Lorenzo Davis is investigating that shooting. Anyone with information can reach him at 881-4738.
