HAMMOND — A Northwest Indiana man died a day after he was involved in a crash between a van and the motorcycle he was riding last Sunday.

Justin Baines, 38, was pronounced dead at 8:23 p.m. Monday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Baines, of the 5500 block of Wallace Road in Hammond was involved in a crash between a motorcycle and a van near the intersection of 150th Street and Columbia Avenue in Hammond last Sunday, the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Saturday found that Baines died of anoxic encephalopathy, or an inadequate amount of oxygen to the brain, and multiple injuries from a van striking a motorcycle, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.
