The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission announced Friday that paratransit services in Hammond would continue through July.
The service was at risk to end with the end of Regional Bus Authority service on Saturday.
Riders who qualify for paratransit through RBA will be able to continue using Triple A express service as permanent funding is pursued.
Anyone with questions can contact Triple A and, starting Monday, questions can be directed to John Swanson at NIRPC, 763-6060.
Still, not everyone is delighted by the move.
Teresa Torres, a spokeswoman for Everybody Counts Inc., said the RBA had problems complying with a lawsuit from the American Disability Association and part of that problem was failure to provide adequate oversight of Triple A operations.
“It will be unfortunate for anyone to assume that people desperate for something should settle for anything less than the level of quality services to which they are entitled under federal law,” Torres said.
