Lake County Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Tavitas has applied to fill a vacancy on the Indiana Supreme Court.
Tavitas was one of 22 people to send in an application to replace Justice Frank Sullivan Jr., who is retiring this summer.
Tavitas, whose court is in Gary, has served as a Lake County judge since 2006, when Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed her to replace Judge James Danikolas, who died in 2005. She was reappointed to the post in 2010.
A committee will interview the candidates on July 17 and 18. The commission will then winnow the list down to semi-finalists, who will be interviewed again on Aug. 8 and 9. They will then submit a final list of three candidates to Gov. Daniels, who will make the final appointment.
