Members of the Nation of Islam will walk the streets of Gary on Monday evening in an attempt to convince people to change their lives, according to a news release.
The event is part of a wider one in the Chicago area planned by Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan announced the initiative, which the release said is not a “Take Back the Streets” effort, earlier this summer.
The event will consist of male members of the Nation of Islam walking around various communities in Gary with the highest rates of crime and violence. The release says that members will seek out people to “invite them to a better way of life.”
Is it unclear where exactly the Nation of Islam will be Monday evening, but the event is supposed to start at 6:30 p.m.
