Michael Jackson’s family is returning home for a series of events marking the King of Pop’s 54th birthday.
An announcement on a Facebook page promised the Jackson children, Paris, Prince and Blanket, would return with their grandmother, Katherine Jackson. The family has made news recently when the children became embroiled in a guardianship dispute between Jackson family members. The family in-fighting surfaced when Katherine Jackson traveled to Arizona and Paris Jackson publically asked her grandmother to return home on Twitter. Katherine Jackson downplayed her trip and the “tweet,” saying she was in contact with her grandchildren every day. She’s since returned to the family home in California.
The events in Gary include a 5 p.m., Aug. 29 candlelight vigil outside the family’s home at 2300 Jackson St. on Jackson’s birthday. Plans call for a party at 7 p.m. at the Majestic Star Casino & Hotel Lakeshore Lounge.
On Thursday, the family will attend a 6 p.m. Gary SouthShore RailCats baseball game. On Friday, at 3 p.m., there’s a meet-and-greet reception hosted by Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson presented by the Gary Chamber of Commerce at Majestic Star Casino.
There are two tribute concerts planned at West Side High School by the West Side Theatre Guild on Sept. 1.
The celebration is being dubbed: “Goin’ Back to Indiana: Can You Feel It?”
Details on the events are posted on a Facebook page for the event, www.facebook.com/jacksonstreet2012.
