Probation for teen in home entry case

A 19-year-old Gary man was placed on probation for 30 months for residential entry and resisting law enforcement.

Xavier Javontae McCroy must perform 80 hours of community service and seek and maintain a job under terms of his plea agreement accepted by Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell.

McCroy admitted he and at least one other male broke the window of the back door of a home on Oct. 13, 2011 in the 1400 block of East 35th Place, Gary, then repeatedly kicked the steel security door to get inside. McCroy and the other individual ransacked the woman’s home in an attempt to locate items to steal. Neighbors called police, who saw McCroy running from the home. McCroy ignored commands to stop, but was captured after a short foot chase.

McCroy had faced six to 20 years on the original burglary charge, which was dismissed.

Man pointed gun at wife during fight

A 27-year-old Black Oak man has been charged with confinement, felony intimidation and pointing a firearm after his wife accused him of threatening her during an argument at their home Saturday.

Jonathon Travis is being held on $70,000 bail.

His wife, who has obtained a protective order to keep Travis away from her, told Detective Roberto Figueroa Travis demanded her cell phone and threatened to kill her. When police came to the house, he refused to let her leave.

Burglars went to same house twice

Police arrested two burglary suspects apprehended inside a house that witnesses said they had broken into twice in two days.

Tommie McCurley, 63, and Charles Thomas, 52, are charged with two counts each of burglary and residential entry and also theft and attempted theft.

A neighbor in the 600 block of Lincoln Street called police when he saw two men inside a nearby home.

Patrolmen Anita Adamson and Jamal Milton arrived and found the suspects inside the house. They found a broken window where police believe the suspects entered the home.

The homeowner told Sgt. Freddie Cook that a barbecue pit, lawn mower, oil heater tank and other items were missing or destroyed.
