Gary man shot in Merrillville

MERRILLVILLE — A Gary man suffered multiple gunshot wounds early Wednesday when he was shot outside Pepe’s restaurant, 100 W. 61st Ave.
Merrillville police identified the victim as Lamontrel D. McFarland, 32.
McFarland was in a car at the time of the shooting. A witness said the shooter was a man wearing a red sweatshirt. McFarland was shot in the left and right arm, left cheek and right side of his neck. He was being treated at Methodist Hospitals Southlake campus in Merrillville.
Police have called the case an attempted homicide.
