CEDAR LAKE — A 54-year-old man was killed outside his home in the 9000 block of West 133rd Place early Thursday morning after he was struck by a vehicle, dragged for several feet and left in the road.
Cedar Lake Police Chief Randall Mayersky in a statement said police were dispatched to the Cedar Lake Trailer Park just after 4 a.m. regarding a body lying in the road.
Upon arrival at the scene they discovered the body of Robert Lore, 54, who lives in the trailer park, in the street outside his unit.
“The victim had several cuts and lacerations all over his body and no vital signs,” Mayersky said in the release.
A spokesman for the Lake County Coroner’s office said Lore was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries at 5:09 a.m. The coroner is listing the cause of death accidental at this time.
Mayersky said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Cedar Lake Police currently are investigating the crash and have two persons of interest in custody.
