Man accused of fake identity to buy watch

An East Chicago man was arrested for trying to fraudulently purchase a Rolex watch on Saturday at Albert’s Jewelers.

Darnell Murry, 37, is charged with forgery, a Class C felony; attempted theft, a Class D felony; and identity deception, a Class D felony.

A man was trying to purchase a $20,000 Rolex watch when a store employee recalled that a “Critical Reach” flier was recently sent to the store regarding fraudulent purchases of Rolex watches.

The employee looked at the flier and realized the man in the photograph was the person trying to buy the watch and police were notified.

Schererville Police confirmed that Murry had filled out paperwork and a credit application at Albert’s Jewelers while trying to purchase the watch, by using another person’s name and identifying information.

Murry is currently confined at Lake County Jail.
