Quentin Smith reports another burglary

For the second time in year, retired school administrator and honored Tuskegee Airman Quentin Smith has reported a burglary to his Glen Park home.

This time, thieves broke into his garage and stole a lawn mower and edger, both about 4 years old, a police report states.

Smith told Patrolman Angel Lozano the break-in occurred sometime in the last week.

In the spring, Smith belatedly reported that someone broke into his home while he was on vacation during the summer of 2011 and stole his replica of the Gold Medal awarded by Congress to Tuskegee Airmen in 2007.

Sgt. Freddie Cook is investigating both burglaries. Anyone with information can call him at 881-1209.

Teen, 16, arrested for carrying a gun

A 16-year-old Lighthouse Charter School student, still in his school uniform, was arrested Tuesday night after a brief foot chase in Glen Park.

The teen had reached into his waistband for a loaded handgun when Crime Suppression Unit Patrolman Donald Briggs used his stun gun to gain control over the teen.

The incident began about 9:20 p.m. when Briggs saw two teens walking in the street instead of the sidewalk. As he approached, one teen ran north with Briggs in pursuit.

Briggs arrested the teen who was charged with carrying a gun without a license and resisting law enforcement.

Father, son wounded by visitor to their apartment

A father and son were both wounded late Tuesday night at their Westbrook apartment.

Joseph Osborne Sr., 73, and Joseph Osborne Jr., 29, were both home at 11:10 p.m. when someone knocked on their door at the 2600 block of West 6th Avenue. The elder Osborne’s friend went to answer it and began saying, “Oh no, oh no,” police spokesperson Cpl. Gabrielle King said.

The younger victim said he was in his bedroom when he was shot in the hip. He climbed out a window and ran for help. His father was struck in the groin, police said.

Both victims were treated at the hospital for their gunshot wounds.

Lt. Del Stout is investigating the double shooting. Anyone with information can call him at 881-7439.
