Woman charged for phony check

A Glen Park woman who allegedly cashed a phony check on an account from the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Indiana has been charged with forgery and theft.

Ariel N. Currie, 19, of 720 W. 51st Place, presented a check for $209.19 made out to her from the club on July 3 at Fifth Plaza Food Mart, court records state.

An employee told Detective JerVean Gates the same woman had been at the business previously trying to cash another check from the Boys & Girls Club, but the store didn’t have enough money to cover it.

The owner of the business said the check for $209.19 was returned as unpaid because it was fraudulent, the probable cause affidavit states.
