Gary motorcyclist, 17, dies after crashing into semitrailer

A 17-year-old Gary boy driving a motorcycle died after a Tuesday evening accident on the Borman Expressway.
The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Kennedy Avenue exit when a motorcycle driven by Jonathan P. Veenstra-Bell, 17 of Gary, crashed into the rear of a semitrailer, according to the Indiana State Police. The bike was pinned underneath the semi, according to police.
Police said Veenstra-Bell was taken to Community Hospital in Munster, but did not survive, according to the state police.
The accident left the semitrailer engulfed in flames, but the driver was not injured, according to police.
No other information about the accident was available Tuesday evening.
