Franciscan Alliance has bought Medical Specialists, which owns 12 locations in Northwest Indiana, according to a release.
Medical, which is now known as Franciscan Medical Specialists, consists of 44 physicians and surgeons, 11 nurse practitioners and two physician assistants throughout the 12 locations, which include places in Merrillville, Hobart, Valparaiso, Schererville and Michigan City. The group was created in 1978. The merger with Franciscan became official Monday.
Medical specializes in allergy, asthma, behavioral medicine, dermatology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine, rheumatology and ear, nose and throat.
Dr. Alexander Stemer, president of Franciscan Medical Specialists, said clients would benefit by being part of Franciscan.
“As a result of this unification, we believe that availability and quality of medical services in our community will significantly advance in the immediate future, as well as the long term,” Stemer said in a release.
