Crash kills Dyer teen, second teen hurt

ST. JOHN— An 18-year-old Dyer teen died in a single-car crash early Saturday that also injured another passenger.
Lake County Sheriff’s police said the crash killed Michaelangelo Sanchez and injured Luis Norman, 19, of St. John. Police said a Lexus the pair were in was traveling west on 101st Avenue when it appeared to miss the curve and left the roadway to the south in the 7400 block of West 101st Avenue.
The car traveled along a ditch where it struck several smaller trees and turned around where it came to a stop.
Sanchez was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Norman was taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health Crown Point.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
No other details were available. Police said the crash was still under investigation.
