Cal City man gets 8 years for dealing
A Calumet City, Ill., man was sentenced to eight years for dealing in cocaine.
Felipe Jesus Martinez, 42, will serve one year in Lake County Community Corrections Kimbrough Work Program, followed by seven years on probation. His plea agreement specified that his sentence would be served in community corrections if he qualified.
Martinez also must pay $450 in restitution to the Munster Police Department for three cocaine deals he made with a confidential informant. Martinez admitted he arranged to meet with the informant on April 8, 2010 at a gas station at 444 Ridge Road, where he delivered 3.5 gross grams of cocaine for $150.
Lake Superior Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr. noted Martinez, who is employed in Chicago, was remorseful and has no prior criminal convictions. A lengthy prison sentence would pose a hardship to his dependents.
