Joey Rogers, 28-year-old Hammond man, has been charged with felony theft for stealing a donation jar for a child cancer victim from The Smoke Shop Oct. 26. Joey K. Donation jar thief located, charged
A 28-year-old man has been charged with felony theft for stealing a donation jar for a child cancer victim from The Smoke Shop on Oct. 26. Joey K. Rogers of Hammond, formerly of Shelbyville, Tenn., was identified by police with the help of a variety of tips from the community given to police including a possible vehicle description, according to Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land.
An independent investigation by Detective Norm Isaacs was able to identify both the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. During questioning Rogers admitted to stealing the donation jar.
“The apprehension of this person was due to both Detective Isaac’s aggressive investigation as well as the community providing us with information they thought may help solve this case,” Land said.
Rogers was incarcerated at the Lake County Jail and bond was set at $1,000.
